INSTRUCTIONS FOR JOINING AND MAINTAINING YOUR WEBRING

under the New Yahoo Webring Management

This page is set up for those who have never joined any Webring.
If you have webrings on your web pages and need to find out how to associate them
then go here Current Ring Users

Here are a few things that I have learned with the new yahoo Webring system.

You may want to open a second browser page so you can go back and forth from yahoo to the instructions here.

First ... you Must have a Yahoo ID. Without it you cannot join any ring. If you already have a Yahoo ID for something else in Yahoo then you can use your existing one.

When you click on *Join* from any Webring on any page it will take you to a sign in page.
If you already have your yahoo ID then sign in other wise you need to click *Sign Me Up*

Come back to this page and I'll show you where to go from there. :)

If you have already signed in prior to hitting *join* from a Webring then it will take you directly to the join page. Click join again and you are on your way to joining this particular ring.

Now you need to go into your *My Rings* page in yahoo. Click the link up top of the page that says *My Rings* and you will see all your webrings that you belong to and have joined listed there. (If you don't see your webrings listed go up and click it again ... I have had it take me to a blank page that says My Rings but none listed.)

You need to get the Nav Bar. for the new ring you just joined. Copy and paste that code into the page that you want it to show up on.
BUT.............. If you already have a ring Nav Bar already posted on that particular page you don't need to add this one to it as it will automatically show up with the first code you put there for a different ring.

MANDATORY: You must place the code on the exact page url that you have registered for that page or it won't work and you won't be in the ring. You will just be bypassed by patrons touring the ring. This is an automatic code checker by yahoo and has zero tolerance. (Webring masters will understand and appreciate this when they have traveled through their rings looking for broken links and needing to delete them from the ring... We no longer will have to do this) [1 pt. for yahoo 0 pt. for old system] :)
STOP WHINING!!!! This is really good and it's going to work.

After you have uploaded your page you won't see the ring there ... Patience is a virtue ... You have been placed in a *queue* and have to wait until the ringmaster approves or denies you. If you have the code on your page and have been sitting there for more than 2 weeks and not added yet you may want to email the ring master to notify him/her that you are waiting for approval to be admitted to the ring. Be kind ... under this new system many ring masters don't know that they won't see the ring code that you placed on your page until they approve the site (it didn't work that way under the old system)

Enjoy the new Webring set up ... it's going to work when all the bugs are worked out. :)

I'm going to use and example here to explain something.
I belong to a couple of rings on my *About Ferrets* page. I associated those rings to yahoo, went to *my rings* page in yahoo, got the *Nav Bar* for one of those rings on the ferret page and copied and pasted it into the page. Voila!!! I went to the ferret page to preview the nav bar that I had put there and whhoooppie .. both of the rings were showing there. So ....... here's the scoop. You only need to place the code on your page once and any ring that you sign up for and associate to that page will automatically show up. :) No more bunches and bunches of codes for each ring on the same page. [1 pt. for yahoo 0 pt. for old system]
You do need to do that for each page that you are putting the rings on though. I have the couple on my ferret page and on my graphics page I have one but I needed to go to *My Rings* in yahoo and *Get Nav* for that ring for that page. Any other ring that I join and use the url of my graphic page would now automatically show up on my graphic page without me placing the code there again *YYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS* Seeeeee this isn't so bad. :)

Enjoy your webring and travel through it.
